Jocelyn
|
Jocelyn was separated from her son by Border Patrol, prosecuted in federal court despite seeking asylum, and detained in Sierra Blanca for six months before we posted her $3,000 bond. Jocelyn fought for two more months to be reunited with her son James, and she stepped up to be a lead plaintiff in the federal lawsuit suit that led a judge to order the U.S. government to reunite every child and parent it has separated at the border!

RobertoRoberto is an asylum seeker who has endured tremendous hardship in his home country, Mexico, and the U.S. detention system. After arriving at the border, he spent over a year incarcerated at California's notorious Adelanto Detention Facility. Inside, Roberto organized with other detainees and suffered harsh retaliation, including solitary confinement.
Roberto's $3,000 bond was the Fianza Fund's first official posting. We worked with friends Pueblo Sin Fronteras, UndocuMedia, Al Otro Lado, and Indivisible Morongo Basin to make it happen. |
Marius
Marius is a true fighter, who endured over a year in detention centers across Texas and New Mexico. Representing himself, he finally won a bond hearing. A judge granted him a bond--one of the few we've ever seen for an African detainee in our region--but set the amount at a whopping $15,000. We knew we couldn't let him lose his chance to fight his case in freedom. With the crucial support of Undocublack Network, Grassroots Leadership, and dozens of donors, we got Marius out of detention just before his deadline!

Blanca
Blanca is a mother who was separated from her son by ICE and detained for five months in El Paso despite having a credible asylum claim. She was finally granted a bond of $7,500. With help from her legal reps at ALDEA, we helped free Blanca on March 8, International Women's Day. She was quickly reunited with her children in New Orleans.
