FRONTERIZO FIANZA FUND
Far West Texas-New Mexico ★ Est. 2018
What is The Fianza Fund?
The Fronterizo Fianza Fund is a community bond (fianza) fund based in El Paso and serving Far West Texas and New Mexico. Many detained migrants have no chance to be released while they wait the months or years until their trial. When someone does receive a bond, they are often way out of reach for most families, ranging anywhere from $1500-50,000. The Fianza Fund works with families and detained people to assist them in coming up with the bond amount and going through the long and sometimes confusing processes for winning release.
How can i help?
Every donation helps us grow our fund and get more people free! Collect donations at your work, school, or church. Or plan a fundraising event and donate the proceeds! These are great ways to both inform your community about the migrant detention system and make a real difference--please contact us if you would like to discuss ways you can make a great event!
Finally, join Detained Migrant Solidarity Committee meetings, events, and trainings to get more involved--we visit detained people, document abuses, translate court documents, organize public demonstrations, and much more!
gracias a ustedes, marius and joaquín are free!
Dozens of donations--ranging from $5 to $5000--flowed in to help both Joaquín and Marius get out of detention! Joaquín is a queer Central American whose judge in detention told him she'd reject his asylum claim even before hearing the merits of his case. Marius spent 7 months in detention and is one of just two African individuals we've ever seen granted a bond in El Paso. In total, their bonds were an outrageous $35,000.
Special agradecimientos to Grassroots Leadership, UndocuBlack Network, and anonymous donors who took special interest in their cases. Marius and Joaquín will now be able to pursue asylum in freedom, where they'll have a far greater likelihood of winning!
